Medical social workers help patients and families in resolving the personal, family, and financial problems that may interfere with the patient’s health or ability to cope with their condition. They maintain close contact with other social and health organizations and can assist families to obtain additional community resources. Through their efforts to coordinate resources, patients may often be enabled to safely remain at home.
